Redz Tread

RSVP from the VP of the The Helmet Law Defense League

Well, after I reposted the message from my last argument, and again it was removed the next day. Cowards! I checked my e-mail shortly after and received this (yes, it's Quig again!):

Red,

Are there any adults in your life that you trust?

The entries you continue to make in your obsession with our web presence, is in our guestbook, not a bulletin board or chat room.

A guestbook is NOT a forum for immature cunt-spew. It is a place provided for people who have visited the site to sorta shake our hand on the way out the door . . . it's a guestbook. A guestbook.

I took the time to prove to you that you do not have the facts straight . . . your dissertation on all the stuff that DOT does that they in fact do not do, is an embarassment to human intelligence. Your very existence is an embarassment to human intelligence.

One time in your obviously oxygen-deprived life (helmets often do that, you know?), won't you at least listen to one adult?

You're an idiot. If you have a following, fine . . . congratulations. But at some point you're going to have to accept that the rest of the people on the planet do not have a responsibility to put up with your baby shit.

Rational suicide.

Really.

My turn. I think I'll use the point-by-point method for this one:

"Are there any adults in your life that you trust?"

Yes, but there are only a few. First, there is me, then there are my parents (who are very proud of me and what I have done with my life not to mention that they agree with me on almost every point I have made on this site), my girl friend of 2 years, amongst others. I do not trust you or your arguments against helmets. I trust my helmet. I trust it to protect my brain a lot better than my cranium when put up against concrete. You should too.

Really, is that so? Well then what about all those postings that you have failed to remove. I saw one that just left me speechless. I think it went something like this:

"Helmet laws suck!"

Whew!

There are several postings in your guest book both for and against helmets and their laws that are a lot more that your "place provided for people who have visited the site to sorta shake our hand on the way out the door". Yet they were not removed. What's the deal? There are also several posting asking about helmet laws being rescinded or added or whatever. Last I checked, those are postings for a forum or bulletin board, not a guest book, but they are still there.

Apparently, you don't read well, or have selective memory. I do believe I stated that you were partially right on certain items. I also admit that I was out of line with my "WHERE THE HELL DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT!!" statement. I can see where you came up with that and I was wrong, but notice that I DID NOT REMOVE MY POSTING!! It's called integrity dude. I'm not ashamed of my mistakes. I learn from them. You run from them. I also placed a disclaimer at the beginning of my "dissertation" stating that what I was writing was mostly my opinion or impression of the facts. You say you took the time to prove that I didn't have the facts straight. I hardly think so. You took the time to affront me over the misuse of one word. Then when I replied, you made no real argument. Again, you only spouted insults, and continue to do so. Where are your facts? I've noticed that you have not thrown anymore counter-points my way. Do you have any? I'd like to hear them.

Oh, wait. I found another argument for your cause. You just said it. Helmets cause oxygen deprivation. Use that the next time you talk to the government. After you do, have fun with the libel/slander (based on your medium) lawsuit that I'm sure will follow.

"You're an idiot. If you have a following, fine . . . congratulations. But at some point you're going to have to accept that the rest of the people on the planet do not have a responsibility to put up with your baby shit."

I'm an idiot? Really? Let's see, you take your motorcycle on the open road, with all of its hazards. Cars with stupid, inattentive drivers, road debris, slippery surfaces, and many, many others. You know that they are there; I know you do, and you still choose to ride lidless. I wear a helmet to avoid injury, and I'm the idiot? I've said this before; opinions vary. I don't think I have a following. I do have smart friends. Everyone I ride with wears a helmet. If you read what I wrote to Paul Purtle in a previous posting, we wear a lot more than just that. Take a look at this:

My equipment

This is some of my gear. When I ride, even on a trip as short as going to work, at minimum, I wear my helmet, jacket, gloves, denim pants (unless I'm in uniform), and boots. On hard rides, the leathers. On rare occasions, for very short trips, I may not wear the jacket an gloves, but always the helmet. I don't wear any of this gear because I have to, for fashion, or the law tells me too, but because I'm not an idiot. I can't state this enough. There are too many hazards out there and too many events that are out of my control placing my safety at risk. To alleviate this, I wear what you see above. More and more riders are doing the same thing every day, regardless of any law. Believe it or not, your numbers are falling. The only "baby-shit" I see in the motorcycling community are you danger advocates pissing and moaning because you think you know better than everyone else (ironic, isn't it). Serious motorcyclists know that your only real concern is preserving your ridiculous "Rebel™" image. To validate yourselves, you hide behind your "freedom of choice" argument. Give me a break.

"Rational suicide.

Really."

Sorry, don't think so. I do believe that you will perform vehicular suicide in the future, unless you're lucky. Riding without a helmet is suicide. I'm not willing to take that risk.

I will concede on the postings and leave your site alone. That's not to say I won't pick a fight when someone says something stupid.

Red, not going away!
